Abstract

The dynamics of cities are complex, multidisciplinary and urgent, there are many issues to be addressed and solved in real time. The urban layout has a primordial role in the organization of the urban space, being, therefore, fundamental its planning involving the most diverse variables in search of a sustainable urbanism. However, the reality of Brazilian cities is on the contrary, and remedying problems already installed is the most common practice. With the expansion of cities without proper planning, disregarding the natural topography, growing waterproofing of the soil and ignoring natural physical aspects of the region, the problem of drainage of rainwater is a recurring theme. In the study in question, the implantation of detention and infiltration reservoirs, the so-called 'catchment ponds', as a recurrent solution for the reduction of urban floods in the city of Natal-RN, as well as a fundamental contribution to the recharge of the aquifer, evaluating the impacts of these equipments in the urban environment. To do so, a cut was made by selecting a few copies distributed in the city for studies, by means of image surveys and consultation with the inspection agencies, focusing on the urban environment, thus weighing its real effects. Finally, alternative solutions are presented as a suggestion for the integration of this equipment.
