Abstract

The present paper carries out an introduction to the concept of conflict of interest in biomedical research and its antecedents on the field of the ethics of research, intending diverse definitions of conflict of individual and institutional interest. This work makes an analysis of diverse institutions proposals that tend to build a normative to control this type of ethical problems. Also, the paper makes a critical reflection about this denomination more as a strategic concept than an ethical one that puts the ethical duties of the professionals in the same level of the individual interest. The paper analyzes the States responsibilities in the protection of human rights, particularly in the human subjects of investigation that can be harmed by interests, especially financial interests and the way that the human subjects, the institutions and the own State must be protected.
