Abstract

This study explores the creation of translation resources in the field of cultural heritage based on academic abstracts written in Spanish and English of articles published in Apuntes. Revista de estudios sobre patrimonio cultural. The principles of corpus linguistics applied to translation by Cabré (2007), Frérot (2016), and Fantinuoli (2016) were taken into account in order for them to guide the methodological work and to demonstrate the usefulness of the compilation and exploitation of textual corpora. The study explains the steps taken and the tools used in the compilation of a parallel corpus as a starting point for the production of a specialized glossary. Although the study was limited by the relatively small size of the corpus, the results confirm that the resources have a positive impact and would be useful in future translations within the same field.  It is concluded that, in accordance to previous studies similar to the present one, it is recommended to continue working on the creation and the use of corpora to cover translators’ needs in specialized communication, and the correct use of terminology and collocations in different text typologies.
