This study aims at analyzing the novella O Duplo (2011) by Fyodor Dostoevsky through the lens of psychoanalysis, in order to identify in the protagonist’s double a literary representation of his Id, the primitive, unconscious part of human psyche, as defined by Sigmund Freud in O Eu e o Id (2011). The analysis is based on a close reading of the fictional text as well as on theoretical works which reinforce the connections between Dostoevsky’s writing and psychoanalysis.
