Abstract

Our paper intends to re-read the theories and ideas of Saussure, Bloomfield and Chomsky (Formalism), Jakobson (Functionalism), Halliday (LSF) and Fairclough (ADC) in order to analyze the different postures and nuances of the studies and use of the language, and consequently of the speakers / subjects, by these exponents. In the first moment, we will make a comparative tracing between the formalist and functionalist currents; in the sequence, we will focus our attention to the Systemic-Functional Linguistics (LSF); finally, we will reach our destination, which will have a more expressive value for our work: Critical Discourse Analysis (ADC). As a result, after going through the twentieth century and reaching the twenty-first century (late modernity or new capitalism), this narrative will move to a necessary and urgent verbiage, since we can no longer think of language as a phenomenon isolated from its subject, its society and its history: language is action; it is liberation; it is transformation; it is empowerment; it is political and social practice.
