Abstract

In this paper, we analyze the speeches of users and health professionals about literacy events and their impacts on the Family Health Strategy's practice of care. We based this research on Fairclough's (2001, 2003) and Magalhães (2000; 2004) studies on Critical Discourse Analysis; and of Street (2012; 2014) on the New Literacy Studies. We used semi-estrutuctured interview techniques, focus groups and observations of care practice in health units of three municipalities of the State of Ceará-Brazil, aiming at the triangulation of this data. The results pointed out problems of literacy in this context of health. Health professionals apply strategies to solve them, but these are not enough because of problems related to power in that context.
