Abstract

This paper offers a critical reflection on one of the “symbolic weapons” of anti-gender/sexuality struggles: their discourse strategies. The article first introduces a working definition of “anti-gender/sexuality discourse” that foregrounds the complex entanglement of social, political, economic and cultural phenomena that contributes to the production and circulation of this discourse. Drawing on the work of other regional researchers and my own, the paper identifies and discusses some of the most recurrent strategies in anti-gender/sexuality discourse and their potential rhetorical effects. This sheds light on potential future directions and challenges for critical discourse analysts examining gender and sexuality.
