Abstract

One of the Climate Change's effects is the sea level rise, which could have numerous negative consequences for coastal cities, especially for those that are more vulnerable or heavily populated. Simultaneously, research on adaptation solutions that integrate human and natural systems, such as Nature-Based Solutions (NBS), is being expanded, encouraging the adoption of more resilient mitigation and adaptation strategies. Thus, this article aims at a systematic literature review on NBS techniques implemented in coastal regions in scenarios of sea level rise to understand gaps, challenges and potentialities. The results showed that there are few publications on the subject, mainly in developing countries, and that the effectiveness of NBS is linked to the physical, cultural, and socioeconomic conditions of the place, not being, therefore, effective in all scenarios.
