Abstract

The productive logic performed by agroextractivist from the Amazon estuary is one of the ways to sustainable regional development. In this paper we sought to understand how the families based on agroextractivism have adapted and changed their agroecosystems to the current socio-economic context in the Marajó Archipelago. In a scenario of strong economic, social and environmental changes it was possible to identify two significant logics of agroecosystems management takenby the families in a traditional way. In the first one it was observed a strong extractive activity and little insertion into the market; the other one was characterized by a greater inclusion in the formal market, but with significant loss of autonomy in the family's life projects. This implies in affirming that these family agro-ecosystems are grounded in complex social processes and highly integrated into the natural diversity. However, as far as the market technologies intensify, families move away from the extraction, becoming dependent on the seasonality of some products, therefore, less diversified and less autonomous in relation to the formal market.
