The role of archives in the value chain of organizations
the case of the Regional Council of Engineering and Agronomy of Santa Catarina

The study addresses the issue of value in organizational archives, defined as administrative units responsible for record management. Documents are defined as information support produced within of corporate activities. Organizational archives have a high potential for adding value due to the nature of the activities intrinsically linked to data, information, knowledge and organizational memory. The objective is to show the role of organizational archives in the value creation witin the company process and, in this way, performs bibliographical and documental research. Bibliographical review in the Scopus database recovers studies on value creation and organizational archives, additionally is analyzed the role of the organizational archive a Brazilian federal authority, the Regional Council of Engineering and Agronomy of Santa Catarina – CREA-SC, and the value creation of such organizational archives within the value creation chain of the organization. The results show that although there are studies on the value creation and archives theme, the role of archives in the corporate value chain has not been discussed so far. The research also shows that organizational archives have effective impact within the value creation chain of the organization, thus, internal logistics, external logistics and marketing process. Further studies on the topic of value creation and organizational archives and further analyzes of the organizational value chain, including archival institutions, are recommended.
