O CONCEITO DE COMPETÊNCIA COMUNICATIVA EM RETROSPECTIVA E PERSPECTIVA

Although the term Communicative Competence is widely used by teachers and people who deal with language education, it still is a challenge for many of them to understand what this term really represents for the scientific area of Applied Linguistics in Brazil. The real meaning of the construct still requires clarification. The aim of this article is to discuss the state of the art of the term Communicative Competence and in order to help students and teachers to develop their ability of communication to justify the language teaching in Brazil. Through the analysis of the most important studies in this area we intended to show advances and overlays, similarities and differences that allowed us to risk a condensed representation of the concept and to explore some of the byproducts and repercussions the new framework would help bring about.
